School of Public Health co-hosted The 14th China Nutrition Science Congress & The 11th Asia Pacific Conference on Clinical Nutrition

        Coinciding a grand celebration of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the pleasant season of osmanthus blossom in the key birthplace of Chinese civilization - the ancient capital of Jinling - Nanjing, the 14th China Nutrition Science Congress & the 11th Asia Pacific Conference on Clinical Nutrition was successfully held here from 20th to 22nd September.

The Asia Pacific Conference on Clinical Nutrition and the China Nutrition Science Congress are key academic activities in Asia, displaying the latest research in nutrition science and public health as well as promoting the comprehensive development of the discipline. The theme of the conference this year is “From Nutrition Research to Clinical Practice”. In addition to the plenary session, 40 parallel sessions discussing different topics were delicately designed and over 300 outstanding speakers were invited to the conference. 400 out of 1500 abstract submissions were selected for poster exchanges. There were a total of 3600 nutrition and food professionals from 27 countries and regions all around the world participating in the conference and exchanging ideas. In particular, the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICF), International Union of Nutrition Sciences (IUNS), Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society (APCNS) and International Carbohydrate Quality Alliance, also attended the conference.

On the Opening ceremony, the group led by Prof. Guiju Sun, from the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene at School of Public Health of Southeast University, was prized as the Third Prize of the 7th China Nutrition Society Science and Technology Award. Besides, Prof. Shaokang Wang was pronounced by the title of the 3rd National Advanced Worker in the Nutrition Industry.

       During the conference, Prof. Guiju Sun gave two speeches entitled “Effect of Omaga-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on blood lipids and arteriosclerosis in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” and “The interpretation and application of scientific consensus on nutrients supplements”, respectively. She was also invited as the host for the sessions of “Advances in Vitamin & Mineral Scientific Research” and “9th International Phytonutrient Symposium”.

      36 graduate students and 3 lecturers from the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene participated in the conference as volunteers. They provided a variety of services for the conference with their most sincere smile and great patience, including airport transportation for researchers coming from other countries, working diligently in the audition room and major sub-venues, participating in the reception and VIP registration, and offering other on-site assistances.

“Healthy world, nutrition first”. The nutrition discipline was also confronted with new challenges and opportunities for development. In future, the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene will continue to participate in the nationwide nutrition and health construction undertakings and wish to welcome the glorious future of nutrition science.
