Course Introduction: Infectious Diseases remain one of the key issues in global public health. The epidemiology of infectious disease is directed to MPH students interested on the investigation of the occurrence and transmission of infectious disease in a population. This course expands on the knowledge and abilities developed in Epidemiology. The goal of this course is to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the etiology of infectious disease, the natural and social factors that affect the transmission of infectious, preventive strategies and measures to block the transmission route and protect the susceptible population. The main emphasis of this course is the introduction of the common infectious diseases including HIV, H1N1, Malaria, STDs, Hepatitis, Emerging infectious disease (Ebola, Nipah and Hendra virus infections), etc. The course will include seminars on the infectious disease happened in both the developing and developed countries, and talking about the effectiveness of preventive and control strategies and measures. Most lectures will be followed by a lab session. This is a 2 credits course. Assessment: Midterm Quiz (30%) + Presentation (30%) + Final Examination (40%)= 100%
