About SPH

The School of Public Health (SPH) of Southeast University was founded in 1976. At present, SPH comprises one post-doctoral research station of Public Health & Preventive Medicine, four PhD programs (including Occupational and Environmental Health, Hygienic Toxicology, Epidemiology and Health Statistics, and Nutrition and Food Hygiene), six master’s programs and master of public health program (MPH). The discipline of Public Health & Preventive Medicine was rated as a key discipline of Jiangsu Province. Moreover, SPH has one Ministry of Education key laboratory of environmental medicine engineering, one provincial key laboratory of biomaterials & instruments, and one municipal key laboratory of occupational & biological safety. Its first-level discipline, Public Health & Preventive Medicine, was ranked the seventh in China, as evaluated by the Ministry of Education in 2012.

The school has over 50 full-time faculty members, including 18 professors and 19 associate professors.

SPH offers 2 undergraduate programs. Preventive medicine is the main discipline, which recruits about 50 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates each year inclusive of international students. By taking full advantages of Southeast University as a national key comprehensive university, which is featured with engineering and also closely cooperated with disiplines such as Environmental Science & Engineering, Biomedicine and Materials, SPH has made great achievements in postgraduate education and high-level scientific research, covering areas such as cancer prevention, nutrition and chronic diseases, water pollution and health, safety assessment of biomaterials, nanotoxicology, etc. From 2010 to 2013, SPH undertook more than 40 national, ministerial and provincial research programs, published 380 research papers, and released 30 patents. In addition, it has established academic links with institutions in Germany, United States, Britain, Australia, Italia, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

SPH has set up an innovation platform of environmental medicine engineering. The laboratory covers a total area of 6000 square meters, and possesses advanced research equipments such as HPLC-MS, GC-MS, Spectrometry, Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, Plasma Emission Spectrometer, Double Beam Spectrofluorophotometer, Fluorescent Quantitative PCR, Flow Cytometer, Agarose Gel Images Processing, Ultraviolet ELISA, Fluorescent ELISA, 2D Electrophoresis, Transmission Electronmicroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, etc.
